BIG-IP WAN Optimization Module (WOM) enables two BIG-IP devices to optimize Hitachi Data Systems TrueCopy traffic over WAN connections. This reduces bandwidth requirements and improves security while maintaining a replication environment for backup or a redundant data center.
With Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) TrueCopy software, you can replicate application data between two HDS storage devices either within the local metropolitan area or over an even larger geographic distance. TrueCopy maintains transactional integrity, has synchronous or asynchronous options to suit your business’s objectives, and runs without utilizing server processing time.
TrueCopy is the same as any other remote replication environment, where the size and quality of the connection is the primary limiting factor in performance and reliability of the replication. As the packet loss levels on your connection increase, the performance of applications using it reduces. As the latency goes up, the connection slowly gets backlogged. At that point, the connection is oversubscribed, and the performance of all applications utilizing the connection begins to suffer.
TrueCopy offers a variety of modes and models to meet your growing replication needs, but the more data you are replicating, the more usage your connection will see. This is exacerbated by replication’s co-existence with other applications on Internet connections. If the connection gets bogged down with replication data, you can get caught in a downward cycle wherein retransmits make the problem worse.
As HDS approved hardware for TrueCopy, BIG-IP WOM offers you a reliable solution to your TrueCopy acceleration and security needs that has been tested with HDS equipment.
