Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) was built to carry call control signals using IP networks. SCTP was created in 2000, and it's often considered the next generation of TCP. This powerful protocol improves upon TCP and UDP by integrating components of each, and it can provide innumerable benefits to connection-oriented communications.
