STOCKHOLM, 17 March 2015 – F5 Networks (NASDAQ: FFIV) today announced it is working with innovative telecom and internet service provider Joors to bring new business models and services to emerging markets.

Joors recently announced a partnership with TeliaSonera to bring Affordable Internet to TeliaSoneras Eurasian region.

Joors is providing the system that is created to deliver ad-funded mobile Internet to millions of users. TeliaSonera's operator Ncell in Nepal will be first to use this service that will launch in a few months. More markets will follow later in the year.

“The Joors ad-funded product used to exist in Sweden as an independent MVNO. Our business model changed in 2014 and, as a partner to TeliaSonera, the vision of affordable Internet will now gain bigger user traction. Affordable Internet is a brilliant idea that also does good in many societies. Joors is happy to have F5 Networks as a partner to make this happen,” said Tomas Olsson, co-founder, Joors.

Carl Aspenberg, co-founder, Joors, said:

“Our vision is to connect the unconnected in a user-friendly manner and on an unprecedented scale. In order to do that, we need to offer a service that is powerful, highly available and secure. This is where technology from the likes of F5 Networks becomes extremely important to us if we are to continually grow and scale our offering.”

To ensure Joors reaches with widest audience possible, it is using the F5® BIG-IP® Local Traffic Manager™ (LTM) to simplify, automate, and customize application delivery. In addition, it is using the F5® BIG-IP® Policy Enforcement Manager™ (PEM) to gain the insights on subscriber behavior and effectively manage network traffic with a wide range of policy enforcement capabilities.

According to recent figures, Joors’s offering appears to be much-needed.

The International Telecommunications Union’s ICT Development Index notes that of the 4.3 billion people without the internet, 90% live in developing countries. About 2.5 billion people live in the world’s 42 least connected countries, which mostly have large and rural populations.

“Joors is in a powerful position to bring widespread, high-quality and free internet access to emerging markets for the first time. The potential ripple effects of this initiative are enormous in terms of general connectivity, business innovation and technology uptake. F5 Networks is delighted to be playing a prominent role in making it all happen,” said Göran Ingemarsson, EMEA Service Provider Director, F5 Networks.
