Infosys Increases Efficiency And Security of its Corporate IT Infrastructure

Infosys is India’s second largest IT services company. Headquartered in Bangalore, it has over 1000 clients with revenues of USD 10.5Bn and market capitalisation of USD 42Bn. Infosys has offices in 50+ countries, and has over 198,000 employees.

Managing the massive amount of data traffic had caused a strain on its infrastructure. Business teams needed to find a way to consolidate their requirements, reduce total cost of ownership (TCO), and simplify the system.

Through the implementation of F5’s solutions Infosys has been able to optimize its data centre infrastructure to ensure availability, security, and performance of their intranet apps to meet both current and future requirements.

Business Challenges

Complex infrastructure that wasn’t future-ready

Infosys is a global leader in technology and consulting services with offices in 50 countries and more than 198,000 employees.

Providing seamless accessibility of all corporate applications to its large and geographically diverse employee network was a critical challenge for Infosys.

The shift towards mobile application had led to exponential growth in data volume had compounded the problem. Considerable stress was added on the existing ADC fabric and they needed a scalable solution that would ensure application performance in the face of future demand.

The business teams were looking to consolidate multiple use cases and existing distributed ADCs into a one high-performance ADC fabric to minimize the total cost of management (TCO) and simplify management.

“There is an increased momentum of cloud adoption within our DevOps teams. We wanted a comprehensive solution that would provide a secure cloud federation and seamless policy enforcement that would make us future ready”, exclaimed Mr. Vadiraj Adiga, Industry Principal, as he manages Enterprise Platform Services for Infosys which covers DC Infrastructure Server / Storage / Business Continuity / Backup and other related services while managing this division termed as Infrastructure Services group reporting directly under CIO.

Solution

Infosys chose F5’s BIG-IP iSeries platform, BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) and BIG-IP Application Security Manager (ASM) solutions for their load balancing, analytics, and security features.

The solution allowed Infosys to consolidate multiple data centers onto a single ADC platform, enabling better management and control at a lower TCO. The solution also allowed Infosys to secure its intranet applications and meet the stringent compliance requirements set by internal security teams.

“We chose BIG-IP LTM as it provided a highly targeted, centralized and efficient process for reducing traffic volumes. Additionally, application-centric configuration ensured optimized application performance”, said Mr. Muralidhara T.V, Principal Consultant.

Benefits

With BIG-IP LTM and BIG-IP ASM, Infosys was able to provide their employees with an enhanced user experience at a lower TCO.

Better application availability, lower cost

Intelligent traffic management and transparent application turnover made it easier for employees to access applications. This on-demand access to apps led to increased productivity and a better user experience.

Protects against network and application attacks

The solution allowed us to protect our intranet applications, improve our overall security posture, and meet the stringent compliance requirements.

Lower TCO and simpler management of IT Infrastructure

F5’s solutions enabled Infosys to enhance performance service level agreements (SLAs) for intranet applications.  At the same time, BIG-IP LTM gave them a more agile infrastructure, making it easier to migrate applications to the public cloud with consistent application policies and controls.
