15 years, one lesson: Growth comes from reinventing yourself

Life at F5 | July 02, 2026

As we celebrate F5’s 30th anniversary, we’re shining the spotlight on employees from around the globe who’ve spent their careers shaping F5’s growth as a company. This first installment of our “F5ers behind our 30 years” series features Jack Wang, Director of Field Marketing in Beijing, China.

When Jack Wang joined F5 in May 2011, he wasn't searching for a 15-year career. He was searching for a new challenge.

After successful tenures at IBM and Microsoft China, Wang had reached a point many professionals eventually encounter: a career crossroads. A headhunter introduced him to an opportunity at F5, and what initially seemed like a move to a smaller company would ultimately become the most rewarding chapter of his professional and personal life.

"I've lived through the best chapters of my career and personal life here," says Wang. "These 15 years at F5 have been an incredibly rewarding journey."

Today, Wang serves as Director of Field Marketing in Beijing, China, helping to drive business growth across the region. But his story isn't simply about longevity. It's about growth, reinvention, and discovering what becomes possible when you're given the opportunity to reach your full potential.

Sometimes growth starts with starting over

When Wang first arrived at F5, the company felt different from the large enterprises he had known.

The environment was agile, collaborative, and focused on growth. Teams moved quickly, ideas were welcomed, and employees were encouraged to take ownership.

More importantly, success looked different.

Coming from global technology giants, Wang had become accustomed to organizations where strategy and execution often lived in separate worlds. At F5, those worlds were deeply connected.

"If I could send a message to myself on my first day, I'd tell myself to let go of the big-company mindset," he says. "At F5, we need professionals who can both create the plan and deliver it."

That lesson would shape the rest of his career.

Over time, Wang learned that F5 wasn't interested in titles or hierarchy. It valued initiative, creativity, and the willingness to roll up your sleeves and solve problems.

It was an environment that challenged him to grow—and one that ultimately helped to redefine what he believed he was capable of achieving.

A company that sees potential before you see it yourself

Like many successful careers, Wang's journey wasn't a straight line.

Early in his tenure, he faced challenges and setbacks that forced him to reflect, adapt, and improve. But rather than being defined by those struggles, he was supported by leaders who saw his potential and invested in his growth.

Two people stand out in particular: his longtime manager, Kuna Nallappan, and former F5 China General Manager Francis Zhang.

Under their mentorship and guidance, Wang continued to develop both personally and professionally. What followed was a remarkable transformation.

Over the years, he earned multiple Asia-Pacific leadership honors, including Excellent Manager Awards in 2018, 2024, and 2025. In 2020, he became the first marketing professional to receive F5's prestigious Platinum Club Award.

For Jack Wang, every stage at F5 has been an opportunity to help others grow.

While he is proud of those accomplishments, Wang views them as the result of something deeper than individual achievement.

They are evidence of what can happen when leaders invest in people and create an environment where continual learning is encouraged.

"Personal development always stems from self-reflection and self-awareness," he says.

The culture that kept him here

Ask Wang why he has stayed at F5 for 15 years, and his answer isn't about technology, products, or career advancement. It's about people.

Throughout his career, he has worked for some of the most respected companies in the technology industry. Yet he believes F5 offers something uniquely valuable: a culture rooted in mutual respect and trust.

"There is tremendous room for marketers to take initiative and realize their full professional potential," he says. "Ideas aren't dismissed outright. Leaders encourage innovation, while maintaining a strong focus on results."

That combination of accountability and autonomy has had a lasting impact on his experience.

For Wang, one of F5's greatest strengths is something many people outside the company never see. "The deep mutual respect between employees and unwavering adherence to business ethics are F5's greatest strengths," he says.

While the company has evolved significantly over the years—with more mature processes, broader global reach, and an even stronger focus on customer needs—he believes its core values have remained remarkably consistent.

"The company's commitment to innovation and its human-first values have never changed," Wang says. "Mutual respect and the helping one another thrive culture remain core to everything we do."

What it means to BeF5

One moment stands out when Wang reflects on what it truly means to BeF5.

In early 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted business operations around the world, teams everywhere were forced to rethink how they connected with customers.

The China team had only weeks to adapt. Rather than slowing down, it moved quickly. Within two weeks, the team transformed its marketing programs into fully virtual experiences and launched a major online event that attracted more than 4,000 concurrent attendees.

The accomplishment required creativity, teamwork, and an unwavering focus on customers.

For Wang, it perfectly captured the spirit of F5. "Proactive action, rapid response, and collective success," he says.

It was a reminder that some of the company's greatest successes don't happen because of any one individual. They happen because teams come together, trust one another, and find a way forward.

Success beyond the office

For all the professional milestones Wang has achieved, some of the moments he treasures most happened outside of work.

Over the past 15 years, he and his wife, Sherry, have watched their son Jackson grow from a child into a young adult pursuing his own creative ambitions.

After earning admission to the Rhode Island School of Design, Jackson continued his journey by enrolling in the animation program at the California Institute of the Arts.

Wang believes the passion and perseverance he and his wife brought to their own careers helped inspire their son's pursuit of his dreams.

Professional success, he says, becomes even more meaningful when it creates opportunities for the people you love.

Looking back, he sees his career and family life not as separate journeys, but as two stories that grew together.

Looking ahead to the next chapter

After more than three decades in the technology industry and 15 years at F5, Wang remains energized by what lies ahead.

The next major transformation, he believes, will be driven by artificial intelligence. "Artificial intelligence will usher F5 into an entirely new era," he says.

At the same time, his advice to new employees remains grounded in the lessons he has learned throughout his own career: Don't underestimate the value of a place that invests in people.

Many professionals are drawn to the scale and prestige of the world's largest companies. But Wang believes growth is measured differently over the long term. "F5 may be smaller than some technology giants, but the opportunities for personal growth and self-actualization here are unmatched," he says.

When asked why he still chooses F5 after all these years, his answer is simple: This is a company where talent and hard work are recognized. A company that encourages continuous learning. A company built on mutual respect and shared success.

Over 15 years, those values helped Wang build a fulfilling career, develop as a leader, and create opportunities for his family. And after all this time, they continue to inspire what comes next.
