What is the difference between an Emerging Market Quadrant and a Magic Quadrant?
The Emerging Market Quadrant is data-driven research providing a visual snapshot of each vendor based on a scoring framework of vendor-provided survey data along with public information and other data such as Gartner Peer Insights reviews. Placement on the quadrant is absolute positioning based on scoring, which is different from the Magic Quadrant where dot placement is relative. The Emerging Market Quadrant is focused on what prospective buyers need to know about emerging, fast-moving markets such as generative AI. The Emerging Market Quadrant is authored by Gartner experts. Gartner’s experts create the market definitions, vendors list, survey questions, assessment framework and scoring rubric. Vendors are added in an Emerging Market Quadrant if they meet the market definition, which is defined by Gartner experts.
Magic Quadrants provide a graphical competitive positioning of four types of technology providers, in markets where growth is high and provider differentiation is distinct. They offer in-depth analyses and actionable advice that provide insight into a market’s direction, maturity, and participants. Magic Quadrants are authored by Gartner research experts following an exhaustive methodology. Vendors are included in a Magic Quadrant if they meet its inclusion criteria, which are also defined by Gartner experts.
Why F5’s position is significant
We believe our latest placement in the November publication of the eMQ is representative of our strengthened AI runtime security capabilities across key areas of the generative AI engineering lifecycle.
Over the past year, we expanded our capabilities in both AI Guardrails and AI Red Team with deeper visibility and explainability, targeted policy and compliance coverage, and stronger lifecycle control. We also advanced our use of agentic AI, applying autonomous, multi-step reasoning to better uncover system weaknesses and provide deeper insights into real-world model behavior. These enhancements improved how organizations can evaluate, monitor, and secure generative AI systems.
We believe such advancements contributed to the improved position shown in the November eMQ.
