URL Filtering

What is URL Filtering?

URL filtering refers to blocking access to websites deemed inappropriate based on their URL information. Websites subject to filtering include gaming sites that should not be accessed during work hours, adult content, gambling, drug-related sites, crime-related pages, or sites considered ethically questionable. URL filtering is typically implemented by placing a device equipped with the URL filtering functionality between the internal network and the internet. By registering the URLs of websites to be blocked, access can be restricted. Additionally, recording access attempts to websites and openly communicating this within the organization can deter inappropriate internet usage.

URL filtering also plays a significant role in ensuring security. For example, registering phishing websites in the filter prevents access and reduces the risk of phishing fraud. Similarly, if a Trojan malware infection occurs, registering the URL of the malware’s Command & Control (C&C) server ahead of time can block communication and prevent data breaches.
