SSL termination refers to the process that occurs at the server end of an SSL connection, where the traffic transitions between encrypted and unencrypted forms.
A device that handles both SSL offloading and SSL termination can be advantageous in some situations, such as high-performance large-scale clustering of SSL VPNs.
Using the BIG-IP® Local Traffic Manager with the SSL Acceleration Feature Module for SSL termination, in conjunction with clusters of FirePass® SSL VPNs, maximizes cluster performance. This configuration can scale to handle in excess of 20,000 concurrent sessions.
