Global Server Load Balancing

Improve the reliability, security, and optimization of your global applications by sending users to the closest or fastest endpoint—whether a physical, virtual, or cloud environment with F5 Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB).

Optimize Global App Delivery

Resolve app traffic based on user location

Resolve app traffic based on user location

Set policies and parameters to direct global network traffic to the appropriate data center or cloud. With topology and geolocation-based resolution and routing, GSLB can ensure app availability for users who may be impacted by accessibility policies in their country.

  • Comply with Regulatory and Security Requirements - GSLB can be configured for specific requirements. For example – to forward requests to data centers in Canada only if they come from Canadian users, not users in any other countries.
  • Deliver Localized Content With Topology Load Balancing - Using topology load balancing, GSLB can send requests to servers that host content customized for relevance in the user’s country and written in the national language.
  • Wide-Area Persistence - Enable higher session persistence across a global network with GSLB to direct a client’s requests to the same backend web or application server for the duration of a session.

Product Overview

Control Traffic Across a Global Network and Optimize App Delivery

Ensure availability of your global apps in all environments. Using tiered GSLB, BIG-IP DNS distributes DNS name resolution requests, first to the best available pool in a wide IP, then to the best available virtual server within that pool. BIG-IP DNS selects the best available resource using either a static or a dynamic load balancing method so you can be confident that your apps are performing the way your users expect.

Available in cloud-native format as a CNF, F5 application services work the same way in the public and private cloud as they do in the data center.

BIG-IP VEs have the same features as those that run on F5 appliances—and you can deploy them on any hypervisor or select cloud provider.

Both the F5 rSeries family of appliances and the VELOS chassis are purpose-built, powerful hardware that F5 BIG-IP software runs on.

Core Capabilities

The F5 GSLB solution provides faster app routing, more efficient cloud scaling, and optimized cloud migration. Control of global network traffic means that your apps’ health, optimization, and protection can be maximized by specifying virtual servers that you want to handle most of the requests.

Support application requirements across data center and cloud environments while keeping apps available.

Distribute app traffic to keep pace with changing network and user volumes.

Route clients to the nearest data center with geolocation-based load balancing for the best user experience.

Gives you the flexibility to shift traffic to a backup data center and fail over an entire site, or just control the affected apps.

Automatically synchronize data, propagate local DNS, and maintain session integrity to ensure user connections persist across apps and data centers.

Define and save custom region groupings to configure topology based on intranet app traffic policies that match your internal infrastructure.

Lets you keep an eye on your entire infrastructure health, eliminating single points of failure and routing app traffic away from poorly performing sites.

Monitor and target specific container cluster apps with global load balancing between clusters across multi-cloud and on premises.

Platform Support and Integrations

Technology alliances

F5 application services integrate with major cloud providers and are available directly through marketplace offerings with variable PAYG or perpetual BYOL consumption options.

Private platforms we support

F5 supports co-location/interconnection providers when building out private clouds. A private cloud using F5 app services is ideal for speeding app deployments, enabling dynamic changes in the data center, and matching infrastructure services to workloads using a per-app model.
